Willie Gregory served as first African-American Levee Board presdient

Willie Gregory was involved in the community in Clarksdale and Coahoma County in a wide variety of ways throughout his life.

Gregory, who died Jan. 3 at age 69, served on the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board from January 2001 until his passing and became the first African-American board president when he was voted to the position in January 2013. He was an area representative for the Delta District of basketball officials for many years, served as a resident apartment manager for Sunflower Lane, Chapel Hill Height, Higgins McLaurin Apartments and Federation Towers.
